We can look at this experience - characters and universe becoming more and more real - as a natural result of our hard work, brainstorming and creativity. Indeed the entire story universe in which these characters exist emerges into view as a tangible place. In this process, I think it’s fair to say these characters begin to feel more and more real to us. But as we dig into and develop them, details begin to emerge and ‘attach’ themselves to each character, aspects of their personality, events in their past, different parts of their psychological makeup. We may think of them as existing in our imaginations. When we write a story, we deal with characters. I assume someone has said or written this before. I found myself blurting this out in a recent teleconference with some writers in one of my screenwriting classes. Today: Your characters want you to tell their story. This week: The psychology of writing, an exploration of a writer’s inner life and dynamics which inhibit our creative output.

She’s been on tour with multiple bands before, and she’s someone I always enjoy working with. She shot my record release show back in 2019 and has done numerous shoots with me over the years. She’s a wonderful local photographer and dear friend of mine. I’d love to take the opportunity to shoutout Samantha Paige Bass. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Famous but seedy… Hollywood in a nutshell. They have a great loft area where you can watch bands play below. If you’re not looking for something quite as glamorous I’d suggest The Rainbow. I always get the crispy shrimp tacos, and they have an incredible salsa bar. For a spot to eat I’d say the Best Fish Taco In Ensenada, that’s the actual name of that restaurant. The Ace Theatre is gorgeous… one of my favorites is the Wiltern. My first suggestion would be a concert at a really nice venue. Without the lockdowns, there’s so, so much to do here. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. I guess I’d want the world to know that it’s always an honest expression from me, it’s going to be genuine to what I’m feeling. Regardless, I write what I know, hence why most of my songs are love-themed.

Basically, everything has been a learning process. I had played in bands before but had no experience in promoting or networking. It has been far from easy though I didn’t know what I was doing when I began making my own music. “This Too Won’t Last” is very personal to me, and it’s my best performing song to-date, I’m pretty proud of that. I’m never trying to be something that I’m not. Music is the most honest form of expression for me. Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community? I’ve always gravitated towards music, it started out as just something fun, but I never want to turn away from what genuinely interests me and gives me a sense of fulfillment. I had to sit down and pinpoint what I enjoyed, what I felt passionate about, what’s something I could do for a while. My interest in it began when I was just searching for direction, honestly.
